Wellgo Cleats..

Does anyone know where I can get some wellgo cleats from ? the 99a version or indeed if these are the same as a shimano SH51 cleat.. ?

Chainreaction shows them but they are no longer available.. ?


Anyone point me in the right direction please..

they are one and the same with shimano sh51 cleats i think wellgo pay shimano a patent fee thing, i seem to have a spare set as well in the packet :roll: :shock:

Yea I thought they might be the same... I can find 98a's in the uk and on the bay,, but reading reviews,, some people say the SH-M51 does not work as well as the 98/99a's , I am not sure if there is a subtle difference in the release positions on the the wellgo cleats..

I have a few pairs of 51's too in a packet.. I might have to try and modify these if I cant find the 99's...

The other option is I suppose to mail wellgo, as they were really helpful a few years ago with a problem with one of there products,,, and ask the question..

But if anyone can confirm the 51s and the 99s are identical it would be very helpful..

no idea if they are similar. Wellgo do make some Shimano compatible ones though, think they also made a lot of people cleats BiTD

Thanks fluffy,, the pedals I have though recommend the 99 not the 98 , and tbh I am not sure if there is a difference again between the two ? ?

always run shimano cleats on wellgo and visaversa,shouldnt have many if any issues tbh

Yea I had a pair of wellgo's years ago, and never had any issues using shmano cleats on them iirc.. but reading re. these new pedals,, there seems to be a opinion that engagement and disengagement could be a problem with SH-M51's ? ? or indeed any shimano cleat.. it would be great if I can get away with the shimano cleats , as all my shoes/boots are currently set up with shimano cleats.. :roll: :roll:

think they are just a bit tighter to disengage,theres not as much cut away from the cleat.i got some universal cleats for my dx shoes and they cover shimano and wellgo,my gt spds are identical to wellgo,same pedal i think and they work spot on,also the same with vp pedals

I'll give the shimano a go then be a lot less hassle tbh..

I don't know wellgo pedals, so I'm guessing.

Everything I see says 98a are 51's
Even on their pedals and cleats

Wellgo website has nowt on it.

No idea what 99's are or which pedals they for. (EDIT see below)

I see some WAM-M19 at on of the shops and they look pretty much the same as my PowerPlay pedals, they use Shimano cleats. (they are no quite the same though)

Is the 99 just the multi release version of the 98a so the SH56's ? which is just a slightly worn out SH51 ?
And compatible with each other.

The Wellgo 99A Replacement Cleats are for Wellgo WAM-M3 pedals only. Features 4 degrees of float
The pictures of the 99a look substantially different than the SH51/56 and 98a

and yes the reports of not working.... so I would guess it may work but not as you would like.
99 are not the same as 98 so anyone reporting on using 98 is not reporting on the 99 compatibility.
