Welding aluminium

Would welding a disc mount onto an aluminium frame effect the strength much? I seem to remember something about aluminium frames needing heat treatment and being welded upsets this. Its on a frame I've seen for sale not something I'm thinking of doing BTW.

is the frame 7000 or 6000 ally 7000 it should not be a problem 6000 maybe but saying that i had a 6000 heat treated frame repaired last year that gets loads of abuse and its still going strong

should be okay ....................but adopt the philosiphy that the frames 4kd

7005 should be fine, although I've had good success with low stress components in 6082 without heat treatment. Just make sure you use the correct filler rod.

Sorry forgot to mention, you'll need the part thats to be welded to be of the same material. You can't weld 6082, 6061 etc to 7005.
