Anyone ever weighed in a bike frame for scrap?

With the price of metals being so high I was just wondering wether to try and trade in a broken frame at a scrap yard for some cash.

Anyone know what the going rate is for Aluminium? If it's going to be peanuts then I wont bother.

Given the huge containers chock full of bike frames at my local tip, I'd suspect there's no money in it else all those people would have done it already.
Having said that, fill it with cement and water and weigh it in then.

I just found some where that quoted scrap steel was worth £1000 per tonne. Giving you around about £0.28 for a 2kg frame.

Not sure how current the scrap price quoted is...but either way expect dont expect more than a pack of malteasers from the proceeds.

The price paid by the scrap metal dealers is currently £175 per tonne around here. (Mild steel).

I worked out a ti frame at around 40 quid a year ago.

Just scrapped a golf shell and it was 155 a ton.

Rob, did you put an extra 0 on? If someone is offering a grand a ton i suspect there will be a huge abount of transits towing caravan's heading to that area!
