So after many years of letting, thinking and such we are selling out main asset in London. It has been in my wife's family for 50 years. That is a long, long time in London!

It all feels quite surreal.

For the first time since I was younger than thirty I am packing my bags for good.

I feel younger than I did back then.

Now what to do?

Re:

You could always take a vacation trip out here to California-I would be happy to show you around...

Cornwall is still very much in the firing line, but we have also had our necks pulled by a couple of other ideas, and half the faily in Cornwall my be involved. Should have settled on a target by mid September. I have had a long affiliation with hill estates, and there is one in one of my favourite areas coming on the market. Enough to have our own mountain bike trails, subject to environmental considerations! Would also allow us to pursue interests in preserving the wildcat population and encouraging an increase in raptors. The Cornwall contingent include my uncle who used to run a National Trust estate and is very interested in that particular prospect. A few months back we were looking at a trail centre/outdoors centre/hostel that was for sale and thinking hard about how we would make it work. I have a friend that runs photographic courses at his place out west and we are looking at this avenue as well.

Always planning, never doing!

You've had a gaff in London for 50 years and just sold it? I'm assuming you're looking at buying most of Cornwall then?!? This is when ridiculous house price inflation works in your favour....

Re:

Not quite unfortunately. I put what I had in the house before we got married, to free up money for my wife's brothers and such after her dad died. When her mum died in 2012 we had no forward plan, but things have got to the point now where selling up made the most sense. Thanks to the rate prices have gone back up, there are still considerations to be made to other people who settled low back in the day.

Won't leave us with anything near a fortune. But enough to retain a mortgage free lifestyle, which is all I really care about.

My uncle retains a place in London but has retired to Virginia, so we have ongoing use of a nice place in Battersea practically any time we need, more of use to the younger folks to be honest. I am through with city dwelling as a lifestyle.
