Waterproof Grease?

What grease would you recommend that won't dissolve in the hubs etc after a downpour?! I thought that the Park stuff was good but it was reduced to custard after rain water got in there!

Thanks,

Craig

I have in the shed a very old tub of Castrol motor oil. Its thick, yellow gunge, and very few things can compel it to break down - its even pretty immune to degreaser.
It doesn't roll terribly quickly, but for my commuting bike I love the stuff, and it doesn't need changing too often.
Pretty cheap too - I have a tub kind of the size of a hammerite tin and it lasts for ages.
Not proper bikes stuff, but I haven't had any issues
For my faster bikes I prefer something a little lighter and less industrial though :-)

Re:

I remember that stuff from working in a garage years ago!

Doesn't it come in a paint pot sized tin with a round plastic/ metal plate with a hole in the middle that you push down to squeeze more grease up?

Interesting!

Wool grease- Lanolin - Popular grease for marine applications. Totally waterproof and doesnt shift easily.

Finish line teflon white stuff has always worked for me for hub bearings. I bought a tube about 12 years ago and still haven't finished it.

Do not confuse this with TF2 teflon grease (red stuff) or the Halfords branded equivalent. Its about as waterproof as tissue paper.

A bit of marine grease (any type) as an extra barrier in the freehub (if applicable) doesn't go wrong though.

Haha,I've got some of that stuff too, inherited from Dad's shed. I thought it must be only me that's got some. Good stuff though, used it to do best bike's headset yesterday
