Have a problem with my old Nokia. It's still under warranty but has had a hard life, plenty of knocks and scratches. Last couple of phones I've tried (rightly in my view) to warranty which were Motorola and Ericsson were sent straight back without repair. Bascially they fobbed me off....

So are Nokia any different? Or am I wasting my time?

when i had an issue with my nokia a couple of years ago i was told by my contract people T mobile that it was out of their warranty but still in the manufaturers warranty of 2 years which is now standard for all mobiles. i was told to take it to my nearest nokia service centre which for me was Next communications, 2 weeks later it was sorted and back in my hands.

in the mean time i just used an older phone with my sim card.

hope that helps

was told to take mine to the nearest nokia service center, both times its been same day repairs :) look up your local one and give them a ring they may be able to give you an estimate on the repair or say nah mate you need a new one!

Get the Nokia Thetford freepost service centre address off the website, send it back and they'll re flash it/repair it or whatever and return it in a week or so. Keep your battery, Micro SD and back cover though.

You can track the entire progress on the website too.

When I sent back my E61 (covered in dents on the magnesium case) after a failed update they flashed all my data onto a brand new handset and sent it back pronto. Very good service.

I imagine with an E71 they'll be uber quick and just bash you out a new handset with latest firmware, it'll probably come back minus any Network branding on the handset too which make resale values better too.

If you have the chance to do a backup via the data cable give it go, this may work even if the handset doesn't boot properly.

Also I believe under European law a 24 month warranty applies to pretty much all handsets if used for their stated purpose.

You can do this rather than going through a service centre? Didn't find this on the website and the careline was hopeless.

What did you send as proof of purchase? since I got mine on contract I recall getting not much more than the phone in a box!

Also on the box for the phone (if you still have it) there will be some peel off stickers with an IMEI number on, these can also be used as proof of purchase I believe.

After a fair bit of trouble backing the phone up and putting (crap) branded firmware back on the phone went back.

Quick turn around. Got it back today. With a large picture of a bit of LCD saying 'phone damaged no repair'. Bloody great Nokia, power switches cost £1.11 online, they might've put one on.
