first gen as in the ones that are inserted inside the handlebar and secured with a wedge?

Yes the first gen are the wedge version.

Thanks for the heads up but I have seen these. I heard the clamping versions will crimp the handle bar otherwise I would pick up one of these.

if you use it on the original Syncros flat bar with the shim, it's fairly burly with thick tubing and I've had no issues on my Altitude:

any of the later thin walled bars when "weight" weeny came into effect, pretty much all bar ends could easily crimped the bars.

Thanks for the info. I was able to find an original bar already. I'll take a second look at Hotwheels Steerhorns....

Found a first gen stem, seatpost too. Just need a RM frame now .
