Thought i'd have a go at finding a needle in a haystack! Looking for some forks for my new build. They need to have a steerer at least 220 mm, be in half decent condition and ideally have 80mm of travel.

Cheers

I don't have any but if you go for some Bombers - Z2s ideally as they have 80mm travel. Then go to Chain Reaction Cycles online and they still sell new steerer tubes so should be able to swap them over easily enough as tehy are bolted style, not pressed steerer.

They are £19.99 for steel version:

Hi Coomber, do all marzocchi's have replacible steerer tubes? Also How difficult is it to service a pair of forks? I'm a bit unsure about second hand ones as I don't know much about them at all.

Not sure if they all do. I know the 98 ish bombers do. I have a pair (sorry not for sale) and they have them. They come up for sale pretty often and are rightly regarded as one of the best forks of the era. Pretty much the first decent suspension forks I'd say.

Mine still work well and have only been serviced once since 1997/8. New seals are readily available and because they are oil based everything in them internally is pretty durable. They are therefore pretty reliable and about as easy to service as you can get. They aren't the lightest but take as much abuse as you can through at them really. I didn't service mine myself but dont think it would be too difficuly. However, my local bike shop did replaced all seals etc and changed the oil for £20 a year or so ago so it's obviously not a job that's too difficuly.

Hope that's of some help.

Cheers man. I think (barring a miracle) I'm going to go for some modern ones as I don't want the hassle of buying a new steerer to put on an old pair of forks.
