Why are you rolling your eyes?

1.) I have no idea what ID is required but when I buy drills, I can specify the diameter to .01mm so I think I could get one close enough.
2.) Read what I wrote. I clearly state that you turn the OD whilst supporting both ends and then alter the workholding to a collet so you can drill through, or half way.

I said I teach at an engineering college your assuming by your petty remark about teachers not being able to 'do' that I teach turning. Which I don't I teach motor vehicle and I 'did' for many years before I decided I would like to help young people better themselves. My limited knowledge of turning (as openly stated) extends only to what I observe and learn from the cnc lecturer who is a fully qualified and time served engineer who told me he 'roughs out' with a drill as they are not accurate enough to give a specified id and he would use a cutting tool for precision. I don't know what the tool is called I know it's triangle shaped and gold coloured and looks cool. We don't have drill bits 215 mm long that can bore steel out to whatever the Id of a steerer tube is, maybe you do so maybe you can pony up and offer to make the steerer for the chap but lay off giving me a hard time about being a teacher I've worked hard, very hard to get my teaching qualifications and I won't have that belittled by you or anyone.

At no point in this thread do you say that you teach motor vehicle maintenance, until now.

In fact you seem keen to infer that you know what you're talking about, not that you're the middle man between 'retrobike' and the man that does know what he's doing.

So, sorry if my comment belittled you but maybe given your limited knowledge, you should have held back with the rolling eyes and been a bit more upfront about your skills in the first place.

I teach, we and us are not I and at no time did I infer as such. Please stop talking to me, if you get upset at an emoticon but think its acceptable to put people down due to the profession they have, and yes teaching is a profession we even have unions and codes of professional conduct and everything then I'd rather not converse with you.
You know more than me about cnc milling and turning and probably a lot more and I'm sure you will offer to help other people on this forum I apologise about the rolling eyes incident as I meant no insult or offence, believe it or not i just thought it was a funny little face.

I'm not going to argue semantics with you and drag yet another thread on here into a pointless arguement.

My view is that if you don't like being 'called out'... hold back with the rolling eyes in the first place.

Kinda what I thought I was considering the bulge at the bottom I'm sure that's put there under pressure rather than machined and I would be worried about the strength, steerers are cromo right?

from alloy
or steel
you have to remember that a bicycle is a simple machine
so most parts are easy made
