I'm trying to build up a bike on a relatively new frame with an old set of components. The original front mech (Deore LX) is a bottom pull, whereas the new frame needs a top pull mech instead.
I've been looking for a suitable front mech (34.9mm band) that will work with an old Deore LX chainset with chain rings having 46-36-24 teeth. Most of the inexpensive up-to-date stuff I can find either needs a minimum difference of 12 teeth between the top two chainrings, or has a total capacity of only 20 teeth, and from what I gather therefore won't work well with the chainset I have.
An FD-M901 looks to be the front mech I could do with, but they seem to be a little hard to find and so I'd like (if possible) to find a modern equivalent that would do in its place, but am struggling to find something that would work with the components I have to hand. I don't want to spend too much as this is really just a bike to accompany the kids when they go cycling, so it will see no hard use whatsoever!
So, either an FD-M901 with a 34.9 band, or something else that would work with my chainset - any ideas?
Many thanks
Andy
