WANTED: 18" Mountain Bike to last!

Hi,
I didn't buy the Kona in the end as he got a better offer on it and I found a more suitable bike.
So I bought a Falcon Stealth (older MTB not the modern cheap versions) which is the correct size, completely rigid, and was only £45 so it doesn't matter too much if it's damaged or stolen. Only slight issue is that it has cantilevers rather than v brakes but I think I can cope with that.
Thanks for all your help.
Daniel

Well It's cheap and nasty, but that means you don't have to worry about it getting robbed and well I'm assuming it works so it's just what Ur after init?

I suspect the guy - understandably - would prefer something that combined pretty good with cheap and unlikely to be stolen, like an old Peugot or Saracen. Or for a bit more money, a lower end Kona, Trek, GT or Spesh, maybe with some theft-deterrent paint.

..Is the Falcon really "nasty"??? It's probably unbutted hi-ten steel, but that can be good for utility bikes (very knock proof.) Hopefully it's got alu rims, as steel ones can mess up braking in the wet. Otherwise, if it does the job, why not?

Daniel: There's a good guide to maintaining cantilever brakes on the cyclocross forum at bikeforums.net: read it, because otherwise you'll set the straddle cable wrong!

Yh exactly what I'm after.

Sorted then! I had a spare bike like this, used to take it to college and cycle to house parties and can leave it in someone's kitchen or outside without a worry

I did do a paper round when I was 14, I used my dad's bike which was a Raleigh avalanche. Basically the same spec and value as what you got yourself, perfect paper round bike mate :)

Don't you have a trolley these days? The strap of those bags used to dig into my shoulder which fooking hurt!

How long until the bike pays for itself? I used to earn about £8 per week in 2005, which is pretty crap child labour if you think about it...
