Re:

I often find when some say oh that's just semantics, what they are trying to say to the other person is, yes you are correct but I am uncomfortable with my view being shown as less correct.

It is true of course that you cannot be racist to Muslims based purely on thier faith but you would be an islamaphobe. Islam/ Muslims are not a race.

The fact nobs comment was correct is neither here or there. It's his need to insert " see them damn muslims" stance into a thread about the A14. Having never seen a prayer mat in a layby or a mosque along the A14 I fail to see the relevance.

As to the A14 expansion, it is desperately needed as most of Anglia is a single road network held up by supermarket lorries doing 40mph causing huge tailbacks.

If it was not for the fact that the start total would be drastically reduced by leeches all taking their "cut" before an oz of Tarmac being laid then I would suggest it would be possible for massive road networks to be built but underground.

Clearly I was wrong to draw a comparison between someone who fears the 'invasion' of a faith into 'our' society and someone who fears someone of another race. Yet, I think it's fair to say that it takes very little imagination to construe the connection between an individual who has used the platform of a thread about road repairs on a vintage bike forum to pedal (pun intended) his right wing propaganda about an 'Islamic invasion' and someone who might start a conversation in the pub with "I'm not racist, but..."

For the record, I think Nob is far from correct, maybe I am incorrect too, but I don't mind being shown as such, and it certainly doesn't make me feel uncomfortable, hell, I have owned a few Konas in my time.

Re:

My uncle is a muslim, as is my ex. I have spent many a happy prayer in mosques, and never met a bad muslim.

If there is anything to worry about in our society, it is the moral vacuum consumerism and capitalism is leaving to be filled by ideology.

I agree it is not racism, as such, to note the rise of Islam.

Nob, do you similarly note the rise of the evangelical Christian diaspora?

Wow this sites weird, from road building projects to sectarianism in 3 pages  .

I have friends in Buckden who will not like this new bypass one jot but I'm sure they'd welcome a mosque, those minarets have a certain something 8)

the alternative has already happened

but quietly

this should take hundreds of HGV journeys away.

I'm ashamed to say I didn't know about this, though I usually keep on top of the railway press via the local library's magazine section. Definitely a step in the right direction compared to the A14 upgrade (having actually travelled on the offending section of the current A14 it never struck me as especially slow or unfit for purpose).

It's such a shame the railway line from Kettering to Cambridge was closed.

A lot of the east-west rail links through Northants suffered in the 50s/60s - the powers that be were obviously too short-sighted to see the potential for Felixstowe's docks to expand in the container age. This does seem to have been a big flaw of Beeching etc. - the inability to see that small to medium sized places might expand significantly over time due economic trends and/or population shifts and more than justify the provision/retention of a rail service as a result (Portishead in Somerset springs to mind as an example; station-less since 1964 but now suffering heavy road congestion due to Bristol commuter traffic).

I doubt it, being as they are usually promoted by caucasians. Not that racism comes into it at all, oh no.
There's bound to be some that justify the position by pointing at the atrocities comitted internationally by 'muslim' fundamentalists, but here in the UK I'm pretty sure the IRA have wiped out far more innocent civilians than died in the July 7 bombings. Damn Catholics.......

Also, to get back on-topic in a succinctly ignorant way: I hate motorways, they are ugly and give me migraines. Surely building railways is cheaper?
