I'll cry too, when my Volvo has to go. I'm still hoping for a few more years, yet, and want at least 300k miles (currently 250k miles). If it gets to 300k with no trouble, I'll want 400k ;-)

I got 378,000 out a 2001 Ford Mondeo

Whilst I've had my Volvo, I also had a 98 (Mk II) Mondy. I got sick and tired of it at about 180k miles, though (scrapped the thing). The Mk IIs certainly didn't seem to handle the miles as well as my ovloV.

The only thing is, it kinda has a taste for petrol - could be worse, though, I was thinking of an LS400 a few years back.

That's a bit sad :( , what was it a 940 ?, as has been mentioned most ECU's are easy to change, garages tend to make a big mistery out of these things, could have probably got a S/H tested unit for £100 or so.

The ECU controls the injectors BTW (amongst other things) so the fault with them was probably down to the ECU

Was thinking about a Volvo estate myself, either an 850 or V70.

it was a volvo wentworth 940 2 litre turbo .....road tx was due as well.....at least ive saved a 100 on petrol and insurance a month ....250 000 on the clock and boy do imiss her allready

Well injectors can go easily out of tolerance. There's a guy on several Volvo forums that does full services for injectors (petrol that is, don't know whether he services diesel injectors). For the 850 / 70 series, it probably works out around the £50 mark (including postage) for all 5 injectors - that's ultrasonic cleaning, and backflushed - with a report and pics of flow rates before and after.

Very solid and dependable. I've got an auto S70. Currently done around 250k miles, no problems with engine nor autobox. I'll be sad when it's time for it to go, because it's been dependable and economical where servicing is concerned.

Fuel economy isn't it's huge strength, all the 850s and 70 series are 5 cylinder jobs (petrol and diesel).

Should have kept her, man.

ECU wouldn't have been that expensive to sort, nor injectors.

I always think that if the engine is fundamentally sound, as well as the transmission, and assuming the bodywork is ok, cars like that are worth keeping going.
