Was the SR single bolt not fluted? The Record 2 bolt was plain polished from the seventies...

I was glaring at a web picture - suspect I was looking at a Campagnolo copy of some description. Now purchased a fluted single bolt SR, circa 1984? Just the job - I looked at completed listings on ebay, seems that these fetch good money irrespective of diameter!

Think I'll put it in the freezer and let it contract a fraction, liberally grease it and then install to the correct height. just hope I don't need to remove it in the future, could be an issue?!
Get the right sized pin, freeze fitting isn't something to just do at a whim. You *could* split the lug. Or do other unseen damage.

When we do it we have to calculate hoop and compressive stresses/strains, at all extremes of temperature, tolerance and load to make sure that a) it'll hold through the full range of loads and temperatures and b) nothing will split or crack through that full range. Then the design is tweaked, just to make sure.

Just cooling it down and belting it in with a hammer ain't going to be pretty (potentially).

We are talking fractions of a mm,but yes it wouldn't be my first choice solution. However said post fitted my other frame without much issue. I'm just hoping the post i've bought for the MK1 frame fits!

Seat posts are made in fractions of a mm for a reason!
IE 25mm, 25.2mm, 25.4mm, 25.6mm etc & as you have already said yours measures 25.34mm which is already one size too BIG. Seriously buy one the correct size & flog the one you already have. Even the correct size Seat posts seize in all the time, unless they are removed & regressed regularly & what your suggesting doing is Guaranteed more problems down the line.

Re:

Indeed, new post has been ordered in 25.0 - the same diameter as the Rubis that is stamped 25.0 but is 25.3 in the real world!

What are the correct hubs for a 1984 SR groupset? Velobase, although extremely useful, is a bit vague of dating i.e. late 70s - mid 80's. I'm after some that are correct, and i'm finding it a bit tricky to distinguish between them.

Re:

Yep, had a scan through the catalogue. Same Record hubs as in the 70's then with the oil port clip & domed skewers? Hate going through ebay reading sellers descriptions etc. Seems easier to ignore the sellers description and just view the images.

I've just had a quick trawl as well, 1984 seem to be the same as the late 70's. No large flange hub though, I wonder when they went? :(

I find it all a bit of a minefield, differences are subtle with trickle down designs & features through the groups. The calipers for example, it's only the inscription and subtle font change that seems to differentiate the era. I was hoping the levers would also be different, I find them very uncomfortable on my Quinn

Catalogue states large flange hubs applied only to the track hubs?

Large flange in track guise only. :( I've got some early campag levers and they don't seem to have much curve on them in or the curve is different but not as nice. If you find the campag ones uncomfortable then give the Superbe ones a wide berth ! I have small hands and find the Shimano range better. Not ideal if you want campag.

When did aero come out? They might be better?
