Offering rare and highly refined Vittorio Strada frameset, size 64, with many Campagnolo Nuovo Record parts
Vittorio is a small builder that originates from cheese town Alkmaar. Established in 1935 by Jan Groot, Vittorio develloped great competence in custom bicyles. Initially roadbikes, but later Vittorio also earned a great reputation with randonneurs that have been everywhere on the globe.
The name Vittorio is derived from 'Alcmaria Victrix' - a Latin phrase that originates from when the Alkmarians defeated the Spanish in 1573. From than the decline of the Spanish occupation of Holland set in.
This Strada is a very refined frame. It is built with full Reynolds 531 butted tubing and neatly filed and enamelled lugs (Cinelli, I think). Drop outs come from Campagnolo. The distinctive red tone has a deep gloss and there are 3 panels in gold. Imo the frame makes a strong visual impact. Both refined and expressive.
The year is 1978. Builder is Jan Groot himself. There is mention of it with a decal on the seattube.
Condition:
The frame itself is in very good condition given its age, with here and there a couple cosmetic imperfections, but nothing spectacular. No rust. The chromed fork has a rust issue. I would ride it for the upcoming couple of years and than decide whether it is ready for being rechromed. Structurally frame and fork are 100%. View the pics to form your own opinion. I made many.
