Vintage Zaskar info needed please....

O.K, I'm new on this site - mainly because I did not know it existed.

I have been a member of old school BMX forums for years and have also been collecting the odd early MTB along the way.

Today, I have picked up an early Zaskar, frame is dated december 90 so I am chuffed to bits as I have been after one for about 10 years but they have always been out of my price range.

Anyway, what should I look for on this...not sure if it was a complete bike or a build due to there being some odd bits but that could be due to it's age.

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers

RG

Be good to see some pics before passing comment, but Ed (Orange71) got his fingers slightly burnt a few months back by an EvilBay purchase, someone passing off a lesser polished model (Avalanche I think) as a Zasker.

Having said, people do chop around components as things break, wear out etc, and may have replaced bits hear and there.

Lets have a look at the pics first

Here you go..

Oh my... that is sooooo cool!!! I really love those old Zaskars (and LE) that didn't have the replaceable derailleur hanger.

From what I know, these were a complete bike. Frameset was the LE version. The normal Zaskar had a cool Flip-Flop stem, black GT 3D fork and a complete XT M735 build with rapid fire STI units.

And of course, as with every old Zaskar/Xizang/RTS in ball-burnished: a Rock Shox MAG-20 would look totally cool on it 8)

Very cool. 8)

New seat, flip-flop stem and a bit of a polish; then ride it into the ground. S'what a Zaskar lives for. :D

That bike could shine like new again.....:) Just polished my own 1992 Zaskar LE (wich is for sale...:)) and its superb.

Have fund with it and ride it!

And keep the rigid forks in it :D

Cheers,
Martin

Yea, looks sound and fairly original.
Flip-Flop stem required, and Jez-2-Many-Bikes has one for sale. PM him.
Would look great polished up, use Brasso for a great shine.
Would be nice to keep it period correct, but nothing wrong with Mag20's going on the front end.
XT throughout required.

Nice 8)
