Not sure of the exact vintage – 70s? This Leforez bike, sold by M. Dumenil in Argentan is as much a historical document as classic bike – it even has the name and address of the first owner punched into a piece of metal attached to the stem.
56cm from the top of the seat tube to the centre of the BB, and 58cm top tube (centre to centre), Huret downtube shifters, and front and rear mechs, and centre pull brakes branded ‘Racer’ (apparently made by Mafac rival, CFB).
Five speed block coupled with a double chainring, stamped ‘RFG’, and cottered cranks. I’ve just cleaned and greased the bottom bracket axle and bearings, but if I were keeping it I’d probably swap the axle for a square tapered version, and fit an alloy 50/40 Nervar chainset (which the new owner is welcome to), as the bottom bracket action is not as smooth as I’d like.
There are no labels to indicate the quality of the tubing – it's not a featherweight, so I suspect it's fairly utilitarian.
Cage pedals with toe clips and leather Christophe straps and a leather San Marco Rolls saddle. The bar tape isn’t original and neither are the brake hoods, but they look the part. The seat post is also a replacement as the original was tiny!
The fork is half–chromed and there’s some age–related surface rust on the blue paintwork, but given its age and provenance it’s in pretty good condition.
£149 or make me an offer
Collection from TA117AU would be ideal, but pick up in Beaconsfield would also be possible.
