He said he hadn't made a frame for several years, didn't say why though. Quite interesting stuff about how many frames he had made and over what timeframe. Kind of implied he made frames under his own name even after he had sold Brodie Bikes. Must be a bit weird competing against a brand that has your name on it.canuckinboston":1tt82x9i said:Be interested in what my fellows Canadians would have to say, but I would probably say the old Brodies and handmade RMs when they were still made in Vancouver. You can still phone up Dekerf and plunk 2K on an SST or 3.7K for a Ti Elysium, and you can also still buy a RM blizzard (don't know where they are made now though-likely overseas in Taiwan). Paul hasn't built a frame for years even though the company bearing his name still cranks 'em out.Anthony":1tt82x9i said:How much revered is Paul Brodie over there? e.g., what is the most valuable as a frame, a Brodie Sovereign, a de Kerf or a RM Altitude?
And yes Blizzards have been built in Taiwan for a while now - maybe 2004 or something like that?
I did read that thread...hope his building jigs go to someone who appreciates the history of it all. I believe that Brodie went on to make motorcycles and steam bikes and some other custom stuff after he walked away from mountain bikes. He had a website that outlines what he has been doing in the past few years:
