Velobase not available

Have just tried looking on Velobase for some stuff on Campagnolo skewers and had a security warning not to use it.

Seems its security certificate has expired and that makes it potentially a security risk for anyone who logs on.

It will be a huge loss if this is not resolved as it is a valuable resource for anyone interested in searching for info on cycle components from dozens of manufacturers.

I could take a chance and access it but don't want to risk anything re my data.

That security stuff is about entering bank details afaik- if you're just browsing i don't see how you can be hacked.

Jon, the owner of Velobase, is running it in his spare time and on a shoestring budget. So it always takes a bit if time before he is able to get issues resolved. There have been quite a few over the years, but so far he always managed to get the system back up and running more or less correctly. Cut him some slack and donate a couple of bucks every now and then.

One problem is that I will not risk going on it while it still has this security warning, so will have to wait before donating a few quid.

Actually, the site is pretty safe. Connections are encrypted according to the TLS 1.2 protocol, which is pretty common. The only thing missing is evidence of the the annual renewal of the site's certificate. Which is a formality, and by itself does not add value, security-wise.

And yes, it is a great resource.

The security certificate is a load of cobblers, it's not a site which requires any credit card details. They just haven't paid the bills!
