Various bits for a good cause - PLEASE READ!

I might have some brake cables and outers, but I need to check. If I have some, they will be used but in good shape. Let me know what sort of length you need for both inners and outers and I'll get back to you!

Some of the parts have arrived today :)

I haven't had chance to open the packages yet to see what's what, but I can feel the distinct 'grip-like' shape to one of the packages, so thanks to development_cycle for those - really appreciated.

I'm off to collect the bike tonight, so will post a couple of pics up so you can all see what I'm building. I realise that a 2007/2008 GT Chucker perhaps doesn't quite fit in the retro category  but I figured that nobody would mind, just this once ;)

Thanks again to everyone who has been in touch and donated kit :)

Grips, pedals and chain have arrived so far - Thanks :)

The grips and pedals are currently on my other bike (BlackStar), while I build it up, but will be transferred across to the Chucker once I get to work on it.

Here's a pic of the Chucker in all it's golden glory, taken tonight:

I've got a busy weekend ahead (got a new nephew to go and see :)), so I'm hoping that I'll be able to start work on it next week.

All (or most) of the donated kit has now arrived, thanks :D :D :D :D :D

I'll start on the Chucker this week. I promise I haven't forgotten about it. We've just had the small matter of a newborn nephew holding things up ;)

UPDATE 21.10.2011

The bike is coming along nicely. Brakes and Gears are sorted, new chain is fitted, pedals are ready to go on and it just needs a few finishing touches now, including trying to remove the rust from the fork stanchions.

However, I've run into a slight snag in that the pub running the auction (that I was going to donate the bike to) is understandably now a little bit wary of selling it, as it's technically not mine to donate. I waited until now to get in touch with the pub, as I wasn't sure how long the build would take, or whether or not I would run into any major problems while I was building it.

If the original owner were to see the bike being sold, for example, they are within their rights to claim it back. This is something which I was advised of by the Police when I went to pick the bike up, and I signed a receipt to say that they could pass on my details if anyone were to report the bike missing, or to say that they had seen it and wanted to claim it back.

Being as people have been so kind, and donated parts to the build, I want to ask you what you think I should do. I'm not going to sell the bike, as that would be unfair on those who have karma'd bits to me. I would like to give it to someone local to me who would use it. There are a couple of bike recycling companies near me who I could donate the bike to, and who could then sell it to someone who perhaps cannot afford a new bike.

What does everyone think? To everyone who has an interest in this thread - please be assured that I will not be selling the bike for a profit. It is my intention to donate it to someone who will benefit from it.

why not an auction on here for a suitable charity one that all could agree on, is there a charity for disable cyclists? Just a thought.

I think if the pub doesn't want to auction it, then maybe you could auction it here or maybe on ebay, with all proceeds going to the same cause as the pub auction. I'd be fine with that.

I'm happy to do either of the above :)

Not sure that I'd be able to auction it on here however, as sale items need a fixed price to be stated and I can't really list it as Karma if I'd be inviting bids...?
