I think I've just printed my first useful 3D print in years.

Chainring spacers.

then not so useful.
then some test screws

and then a lightweight blanking version, with no strength.

I also have the little screw bit I printed for RF+ shifters, but can't remember where I put them, which is about right.
(edit don't you hate the way inline does not work in the mobile version, works in full version edit.)

How long does it take to design and program a part?

Re:

design, as long as you like.
(the spacer was easy, measure and it's cylindrical.

Program, none of that nowadays. Just shove it in a slicer and hit go,.some Ody else has done the hardwork (Cura for me).

It's been so long since I did any 3D modelling and the programmes have change, I just do easy stuff

hardest part is always keeping the printer actually working nicely.
Currently it just working, but doubt it'll be for long

As far top caps for Syncros, I can't print them strong enough with my cheap and basic set. This is just simple PLA.

The screws, I grab a program that sort of does it for you an do just alter things.

The main key is learning 3D modelling/CAD model creation and I'm not quite there yet. Been 20+ years since I played with this sort of stuff before and hand coding G code.

Anyone else made anything useful to replace that hard to find or annoying part?

Re:

I designed/printed cages to carry stuff on my front forks....half the weight of Salsa's madly overpriced effort (it's only plastic, lads...) and twice as purdy too - was going to make and sell them but life's too short and 3D printing's probably about as dull as watching paint dry on a good day...I do like your spacers, though! Going to start on some lugged 29er touring bikes instead, that way at least I can do it myself instead of robot-watching for hours -

nice 3D prints 'FluffyChicken' Could you make V brakes bosses for me to wrap round fork legs like the Pace versions?

Re:

They the metal bands? Pace sell them still I think.
but no I cannot make a useful part like that. it would snap the instant you pulled the brake.

Shame. Not sold any more plus need a wider version. Need a CNC machine. 3 D printing looks fun :D
