US$6000 rear mech (not a typo)

this post actually got me thinking on what the most valuable NOS VRC MTB components would be, and i bet for:

- headset, hubs, brakes, seatpost, stem, fork ... early wtb
- stem ... cbr?
- skewers ... cbr?
- fork ... could also be klein adroit/fat chance/bradbury rigid
- bars ... wtb?
- rims ... bontrager modified mavics
- tires ... white onza porc
- brake levers ... grafton/record or?
- shifters ... m900 xtr on grafton mounts? proshift? record or? xt with wtb mounts?
- saddle ... ?
- bottle cages ... klein/ringle
- derailleurs ... paul/proshift
- crankset ... early Magic Motorcycle
- bb ... part of above, but seperately, boone? wtb?
- pedals ... grafton speed trap? record or?
- chain ... (there was an old school titanium chain but i can't remember the brand)?

?

Certainly Porcs sell fore more than Ground Controls even though I prefer the latter.

Hard to say about forks as a Klein fork is so specialized. There is the strata fork that sold for $1025 recently and there has been a NOS Yo Eddy forks that sold for $900 and some change. How much a NOS strata would go for, who know but it's quite possible that not much more than $1k.

Most expensive brakes that I've seen are unusual colored graftons but I bet that there are other obscure brakes that might go for more.

Most expensive cranks I've seen are Morati but I suspect that the original (codas were modeled after them), Motocycle Magic(?) would top out the list. I've heard of several thousand being offered and turned down but that is hearsay

That's all I can think of at the moment but it's getting late and I tire.

i was thinking wtb rollercams might be more but i can't remember any prices for them.

i thought about morati, as well as extreme, but there have been a few magic sets between $550-800, and i thought morati was outside of the vrc timeframe, but otherwise, if i'm wrong, yeah, morati.

a good condition later style WTB rollercam likely would fetch $300 or more on ebay. the last one i remember went for $250 or so. togglecams and old style rollercams in black probably fetch more. heck, a first series (6000?) Suntour rollercam recentlywent for more than $100...
