URGENT help needed: R.E BB

Rsmith

Old School Hero
I'm looking to buy a raleigh road bike off ebay in the next couple of hours. After speaking to the seller, it has a raleigh sized bb shell, not standard sized. Are new bbs for this easy to find or should I just give it a miss? Not sure of year or model btw.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks, Rob

PS, I know this is in the wrong forum, but I figured it's the one that gets viewed the most.

Thanks for the links guys. Upon looking I didn't go for the bike, but bought a Revell fixie from the same seller instead. This had a standard bb shell and seemed worth the extra tenner or so to avoid modern compatibility problems. Thanks anyway for the quick replies, Rob

I think he's talking proper vintage raleigh rather than shite ones. Comes from a time when Raleigh was so big that they could create their own standard. Phil Woods still does cups to fit so that's a marker of how nice and desirable the frames are (now you wouldn't put a wood BB in shite, would you!).
