Dirt Disciple
Ok so I have just purchased a very good condition early 90's Raleigh Dyna-tech mountain bike. Its in great condition, It comes fitted with a period mid 90's RS2 suspension fork and also the original rigid fork. I am keen to put the original fork back in however I need some advice, Can someone help with the original.

I appreciate that pictures would help but I don't have any just yet. All I can say is that its from either 92 or 93 and has a LX spec groupset with rapidfire shifters.

1. What is the likely diameter of the fork ? Is it 1" or 1&1/8th ?
2. It has a threaded headset so does this mean that I do not need a crown race for the fork ?
3. What diameter handlebars will it take 25.4" ? Its defo not oversized

Hopefully someone with experience can help. I am a fairly confident 'tinkerer' and have built and sorted a few bikes but they have all been post 2004/5 so have tended to have AHeadsets and oversized stems etc.

Last time I had or even rode a early 90's MTB was back when I was a teenager - Wish I still had my Saracen Rufftrax :)

Thanks

1. Don't know for definate, the stem quill is likely to say the quill size though, 22.2mm quill is a 1" headset, 25.4mm quill is 1.1/8" headset.

2. It's going to need a crown race no matter to what size type etc it is.

3. Yes, 25.4mm, the correct oversize standard hadn't been invented then. Although some companies were using their own oversize size.

Re:

More than likely it'll be an 1" 1/8th headset if it's a Dynatech (don't think they did them in any other size). What model/colour is the frame? will be able to advise better if you can tell us this.
You'll definitely need a crown race for the forks and the handlebar diameter will be 25.4mm for a quill stem.

Re:

Yeah definitely 1" 1/8th then. Will probably be from 90 or 91, they changed to titanium frames in 92. Get some pic's up when you can.
