**Update to Classfied Rules and temporary bans**

It'll start eyes rolling but personally I think having pix is always a good thing.
Its such a PITA when you see something you like then have to go thru the whole 'got pix?' rigmarole.

People (me included) like to see what they are buying...

Having pictures and full details are good - that's why we've added it to the guidance section. Not going to make it compulosry because it'd be impossible to moderate and there are some instances where a pic isn't necessary.

Is it possible to ask more personal details when people register ?

and on french forum we block for sale section to non registered people , like that scammers might not know such a section exists .

unfortunately , there will always be people trying to steal money .

Its a trust thing really, isn't it.

Trouble is, as the site grows, then more scammers and chancers join.

Before the recent spate of problems kicked off, I'd happily have sent goods to people before receiving payment just on the basis that we shared a common interest.

Now, I'd honestly think twice about buying from or selling to a 'Newbie'

Maybe, and how feasable this is I dont know, but limiting what members are able to do until they have used the site for a certain amount of time??

For example:
Month 1 - MTB chat
Month 2 - MTB Chat and Wanted
Month 3 - MTB Chat, Wanted and For Sale
etc, etc

Then, Newbie members would have to show comitment.

Just an idea......

another forum i go on requires users to have 6 months and 250 posts before being allowed on "members market" forums.

Works on other forums to some degree, Eg have a post requirement before you can access certain sub-forums (such as forsale/wanted), however it does have an impact on those who dont post on the forum often, and if the post trigger level is lowish...it can also lead to people randomly spamming posts just to get their count high enough.

Its not a perfect fix by any means.

I prefer the way it is, you make your own judgement, make sure you get enough detail about who your buying from to make yourself comfortable with the deal etc.

Theres a lot of people I will trade with on here on face value, but I could ask for contact details of people i dont recognise if i felt a little worried about a trade.

And if I still felt a little worried, I wouldnt go through with it.

I'm just waiting for the day where the forum is hit by generic spammers offering PS3's TV's Iphones etc for rediculously low dollars and offering a freebie hotmail account as contact details.

Agree that we don't want to start setting up limits and minimum posts etc. This will put people of joining and lead to all sorts of agro.

However, would it be possible to require new members to post in the 'Introduce Yourself' thread or something, and maybe post a pic of their bike maybe?

If there was a minimum post requirement such as this (ie. only allowed to post in the 'RetroChat' forum for the first (say) 5 posts then we may be able to drop some scammers and the recent spam attacks?

Just a thought anyhows...

We are a community that chooses to operate a lot on trust. As such we need a few rules so that people understand how we aspire to live our lives and play on this site. I think these rules are pragmatic and give people a chance without the need to get heavy handed.
