Unusual (IMO) Campagnolo front hub

Retro Newbie
Hi, i'm new to the forum, although i've been reading it for about a year now. And i decided to post here because i've got my hands on a Campy front hub witch i find unusual...or i just didn't know what to google for. So, it's got a bigger flange than the record hubs, it has the world logo, but no "record" engraved on it and the sides are bulkier, somehow similar to the rear hub. If anyone can help me with some info i'd be very thankful.

interesting hub possible ATB or prototype....it looks wide unless the flanges are narrower to each other, do you have the OLN measurements? also the world logo and no Record stamp on the barrel disappeared in the early 1960's but if the skewer is original to the hub then that design places it somewhere in the 1970/80's! it's possible if you remove one of the cone locknuts there should be two digits stamped in the inside face which determine age of manufacture, all these questions but no identification maybe a more enlightened soul on the forum can elucidate?
good luck with research

Thank you for your reply.I measured the hub in comparison with a pair of record hubs.
Flange diameter 50mm
Rear record hub 52mm
Front record hub 45mm

OLN 100mm
Rear r.h. 125mm
Front r.h. 100mm

Between flange 55mm
Rear r.h. 55mm
Front r.h. 70mm

I don't know if the QR is the original matching part and i also don't have the proper tools to open the hub ..But i'll go to a bike shop in the near future to see if it's stamped inside. I attached more pics maybe someone sees something familiar
Will post a flickr link soon with a complete set of photos

....seems to be a spate of unusual Campag hubs around lately (the second one surely is a Photoshop?)

It would make sense if it was a rear hub. The one pictured above is front
. And the ones without spoke holes i think i saw them on ebay a few days ago...not sure though. As for my campy hub... seems like it is a bit odd...since nobody identified it yet.

Hi Lo hubs were only for the rear hence the p'shop inference

Looks like OP's hub is indeed either a late Gran Sport or early Record hub with the incorrect quick release. I found on Velo base a very similar looking hub but it had the wing logo. and as mentioned above the original Record hub had the world logo without "record"

Somewhere I found a side by side comparison of all the various incarnations of the record hub and there were a lot. it was quite remarkable how often the design was tweaked particularly in the 50s an 60s

I would make sense to be an early record hub...it has an oil port covered by the black clamp. Or maybe it was designed for touring, considering the narrower inner distance between flanges and the bulkier look. Regarding the hiLO hub posted above it seems it's not photoshop. It was meant for velodrome use. Found this info here: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Rarest/Hi-Lo_frt.htm

no Velodrome has ever allowed a Q/R wheel in competition due to the danger it could cause to other riders in a close bunch......looking at the link (which is well worth it) and the accompanying items I think the comment made by CR is tongue in cheek!
just my tuppence worth
cheers
Griff
