I’m not saying that’s the case here but a lot of these non specialist auctions have acquired this stuff through already being paid to do a house clearance. The stuff you see for sale is what they haven’t skipped or selected as more valuable. So whatever they get for the item (as well as the fees) is all profit. I guess in many cases if it doesn’t shout out valuable it’s one photo and on with the next few hundred lots. Must get boring! I think also while we see this in an online format the physical auctions can be a very old fashioned affair, all the ones I used to go to were viewing night before and morning of, often not much more than a lot number in the catalogue.
