Recently acquired this potential project Univega 706-X (double butted aluminum tubing) for next to nothing, $40. It was worth it just for the fork, XT v-brakes, grip shifters, rear der. wheels(hubs & tires; rims are shot) and handlebar. Frame has a serious downtube dent. The water bottle cage is bent probably from the same event that dented the downtube. It had been stored for awhile, so I think the dent happened in storage. Otherwise I haven't found any cracks or other damage. Will have to remove a bunch of stupid stickers. Stupid sticker standout: A Pepsi sticker on the seat stay brace??? The person who put the pepsi sticker on it should have to sleep on goat head thorns for a week.
Take a look at the pictures. Post your opinions. Do you think the frame is a wall ornament or project worthy? Not sure I would trust it to ride. Could it be reinforced? Do have a local aluminum frame repairer.
Late breaking bonus! While looking it over I noticed two Potts Lubers that I had missed when I picked it up.
