univega alpina 802

Hi Guys
I am looking for a bit more info on a frame i have just picked up.
It’s an unvega alpina 802 6061 t6 double butted biaxial power oval frame.
Could anyone tell me a year of manufacture and what the original spec might have been. The only components with it are a shimano deore crank set and a concept stem.

I think that is a 98 and a lovely frame as well.......My wife has a steel one from the same year....... :?

Many thanks for the reply.It is a nice light frame, a few marks on it but it is old. Not sure what to do with it yet. Do i restore to orginal or go with modern parts? Whatever i do its not going to be quick as i need to buy quiet a lot.

Pretty sure its a 1997 and it would have had an Stx/Alivio mix with Dia-compe brakes.

The Concept stem is original and if the headset is dia-compe then thats probably original too.

The frames always deserved far better components and yours is well worth upgrading. M739 Xt would be nice

Hi thanks for the reply.

The headset is sadly scrap and was a fsa pig head dh so not original. And the cranks say shimano deore just, the arms are very scored. Good to hear the stem is original as it’s in good nick.
What sort of wheels/ hubs and rims should i be looking for?

The cranks are Deore LX and if the chainrings are ok its worth keeping although they weren't the prettiest chainset ever made.

Do you want the bike back to original spec or use upgraded parts?

The chain rings seem ok but there’s no dust caps for the middle of the spiders
As for back to original or upgrade well i would like to period upgrade but it depends on what’s available and how much it’s going to cost

Nice frame, I actually like the LX of that period.

I would put whatever you want on it, nice Vs and some mid travel shocks.

Risers and the largest volume tyres you can fit on some Mavic's on LX hubs.

Nice to see that there's still some 802's out there.

I pretty much agree with the concept and stx replys about original equipment on the bike. My 802 is from february 1997 and I remember i bought it just when it arrived at the bikestore (in Denmark). It may have been released in 1996 in some other countries.

The frame has served me well for 15 years now but I don't know it's initial weight - do you ?

Today it's tuned up with some Mavic crossrides and a rocksolid Marzocchi fork.

That is a great looking bike i hope you have as much fun on it as i do mine, I

ff the attachemnt works hopefully you,ll be able to see how my frame turned out .

I love riding it its great fun and its not too common, its now been joined by an eariler alpina 800 frame which i hope will ride just as well.
