Univega Alpina 502

Retrobike Rider
I picked up this univega from ebay a while ago for £25, I have been using it for a while but made a few upgrades to it today. New wheels, allowing me to put a disc on the front. And added the bar ends. The forks were replaced when I got the bike, it came with some knackered rockshox on it so I put on these RST forks I had lying around, that just happened to have a 1" steerer of the right length on them.

Could do with a bit of a clean as well...

Re:

I do like these, kinda under- stated but tidy looking machines and at 25 brick...bargain.

I'm not sure which one chris has, but it's very lightweight. 1" headset.

cool.

Re:

Nice. I have an Alpina 508 (same year as yours by the look of it) project coming close to an end at the mo. Never really paid Univegas much attention in the past but this is shaping up to be really nice and light for the money I have spent. Agreed, underrated.

I wouldn't be ashamed to have a Univega hanging in my garage. I used to covet the old Boralyn Univegas, but apparently it was good that I never got one. I've just read they had a reputation for being fragile.

Its exactly a year since I sold mine - kinda wish I hadnt now...

Dump that heavy chainset as soon as.

Couple more photos as I have been swapping bits, new saddle, front disc, chainset, chain, cassette, x-lite titanium bars and avid speed dial 7 brake levers to replace the ones that were a bit past it. Also got red cabling, except for rear brake, will sort that when I get the adapter to put the rear disc on. Should be finished then, might even give it a wash for the final photo. It started out as a very cheap bike, not any more but really good fun to ride. The frame, headset, stem, gear shifters and seatpost are original still...
