united

.

I think Man U were let down by Park.
The one thing you need to do, more than anything else, is keep the ball.
Everytime he picked the ball up in front of the back 4 he punted it about 50 yards to Barca's back 4 giving them loads of chances to break forward.
Carrick was the same to a lesser extent.
Don't know what Rooney was saying to Ferguson during the first half, but i suspect it was something along the lines of..'if you don't sell most of this shower of sh*te before next season i'm off'

Disappointing, but beaten by the better side. Not going to comment on any player in particular; after all they were good enough to get to the final in the first place.

No disgrace to be beaten by Barca, I think that nothing can touch them at the moment. Not going on all this "greatest team ever" just yet though. Real Madrid won 6 euro cups between the mid 50s and 60s and then another 3 besides.

Still a good day and a great event.

I don't think United sat on their hands.

Football is something like tennis, or boxing if you like.

Those whose overall performance suggests they are not ultimately at the 'top of the tree' often have better stats against some top performers than others who achieve greater consistency against a range of opponents.

Perhaps United have a big enough squad to stream it into two, one for Europe and one for domestic.

Who knows, I am happy to see English teams doing so well in Europe at any rate, whoever it is.

I am one of those that believe it is a great thing for football in general to have lots of foreign players and lots of competition internationally.

More please!

I've heard some shit about last night, Barca are being run-up into the new Dutch, Barring the first 10mins Trafford could'nt have made it any easier for 'em...too far off thier man and with VDSArr launching kicks down the field relinquishing the ball everytime. 8 x's i counted, with between a minute and 3mins to get the ball back thats a 1/10 of the match threw needlessly away..confrence tackle that...suprising from a team reknowned to play attacking/pressing football, especially given it was a good temp for that tactic.

I have to agree with most of that last bit. They knew before the game that retaining possession was key. More so than in any other game.

Too easy to sit back and declare Barca unbeatable, rather than critique the failings of the team, they should have done a lot better. At least taken it to 5-2 or something, Berbatov should have been on the bench. And Tevez. ;)

Have a look at just how many teams were actually involved in the European (or 'champions' ) cup back in those days..

Personally, I dont count those early cups. Its a sweeping statement, but I dont think football (as we know it) really started till the mid/late 60's. And even then it was a bit..meh. Rubbish.

Tight shorts & moustache's of the 80's, now that was a manly era. Either that or a Village People reunion.

On topic, United were beaten by the best team in the world and probably the best team of at least the last 10, possibly 20 years. No disgrace in that.
Fergie did marvels this season with a team clearly lacking in previous depth. All the haters out there should feel more ashamed of thier own teams shortcomings than take joy in United's failure to capture a fourth Euro crown.

Agree with most of what you say KIS but your point about the early cups not counting sums up what is wrong with the game now. Insufferable arrogance. the concept that footbal was primative and unskilled bitd is just not true. Sure the game has got faster, more athletic and new balls boots training methods etc make for a differnt game but to dismiss the successful teams of the 50's/60's is just ignorance. These rubbish teams where by and large made up of a squad from the immediate area of the club, more often than not supporters and given half a chance lifelong servants of the club. The standard of football was very good and i challange you to play in the kit that was used then! Indeed I would rather watch and support a football team from that era than the overpaid overrated and oversexed morons that play at the highest level these days. Football has lost its way, just look at the crap happening now internally, honesty, fair play and a love of the game are posted missing, if you want to find what that looks like, have a look at some old black and white footage
