dont the lava domes and hahannas have different geometry and shorter chainstays or something, would some simple measurements not determine what it is?

Simple yes, but I figured that if he measures 18" as 17.5", how accurate is he likely to be with c-c top tubes?

Assuming it's a size 18, a Lava Dome or Cinder Cone c-c top tube should be 562mm, a Hahanna or Fire Mountain 550mm.
