Uniglide 6-speed cassette

Hi,

I'm seeking out a uniglide 6-speed cassette. Mine has worn to the point where it's now unusable - its on a Peugeot Aravis from 1989- . The current ratio I have is 13-21 and I'd like something similar if possible.

I really need to get my bike in working order for a c2c at the end of August. So any suggestions, offers or alternatives from you guys would be much appreciated!

It's hard to say without pics, but it's highly likely that you can replace the worn sprockets with HG ones, and just use the same 13t locking sprocket (which is unlikely to be worn much if at all). This is certainly the case with 7s UG, and I think it is with 6s too.

Hi. Thank - you for your replies.

I'd like to accept ScillySuffolk's offer but, as I've never fiddled with freewheels before, I'm not certain that the sprockets would fit - having read the following http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index ... 26759.html and http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index ... 28915.html and http://www.sheldonbrown.com/dura-ace.html#hubs .

It seems a bit complicated. Some hyperglide freewheels ARE compatible with uniglide hubs. But I'm not sure if the MF-HG20 is? If you have a spare minute perhaps ScillySuffolk could have a look and compare with the images on the sheldonbrown link above?

I've never been able to fit HG onto a UG but can fit UG on HG iirc...

I think, unfortunately, that that is probably the case.

Having read many resources it seems that a lot of people tend to just turn the cogs over as they only wear on one side. But I wonder if anyone has direct experience of this?

Also, does anyone know if you need a specific uniglide chain? (might sound stupid but I've heard murmurs)

I'm a little confused.

I wasn't aware that you could get 6 speed cassettes: what I have is a freewheel which screws onto the hub, so I don't think this is what you want after all.

Yes 6 speed Cassettes. I think you may even be able to get 5 speed but very rare and I've not ever seen one.

Yes I have done this successfully.

May work better but a modern KMC has always proved more than adequate for me.

I have a Dura Ace UG cassette. It is 7 speed, but the sprockets are the same width for UG6 and UG7. It has seen some light use on my son's downhill bike, but I don't think he has worn it significantly. I can hunt it out tonight and let you know if I think it is going to be any good to you.
