** UNIDENTIFIED TI FRAME**

Has anybody brought up the magnet test thing :?

Or are we beyond that

Yes, way beyond that, nobody is suggesting it's a pure Ti frame... but Take the magnet test with a pinch of salt. Not all steel alloys are magnetic. I think if it has a higher chromium content then it may loose it's magnetic quality.

I think it's got beyond that but I did find one of my youngest's magnetic letters stuck to the frame last night.

If replaced professionally then it will ride the same, the only difference would be psychological because you would know the frame has been repaired and may be comparing it to how "it was" before, if you know what I mean.
As for tubing availability, I really don't know, but as suggested previously have a chat with Chas Roberts in Croydon.

Would you happen to have a number for Chas Roberts, or is that Roberts bikes you find on Google.

What was the £120 for, just to swap the parts onto your new frame?

If so pop round to mine on a weekend, and i'll let you in the office workshop...shouldnt take more than 90 mins max... unless anythings too badly siezed.

I am in Islington, and my office is between tower bridge & aldgate east.

Thanks JeRkY for the very kind offer, but my bike rebuilding skills are lacking to say the least, quick service and that's about it. Also I may break something or find that the headset is the wrong size!!
So trying to find somewhere cheaper.

Cheers - but it does look like I have started another discussion about the ti plating!

Oh I was offering to assist aswell, couldnt leave strangers wondering around the office all day :P

Once again thanks for the offer, I may have found somewhere closer to home that can do it next week, lets hope they don't do a bodge job. If not I may well take you up on your offer.

Thanks

If you haven't got your own x-ray machine ;-)
Apply a liberal squirt of light oil or 'metal dye' through the bottle boss hole into the down tube - it will leak out of any structural cracks.

Funnily enough I have just scourced an X-Ray machine.
But will also give the 'metal dye' method a go.

Yup, deffo Ti plated.

Ti plating is impossible - this is nickle plating and is apparently refered to as Ti plated finish on that decal. This is the same finish that P7 have along with countless Fuji frames.
Ti-clading on steel is possible but the only plating is PVD or the gold nitrate finish. I think something may have been lost in translation with Mr Yamakoshi.

Had my Parkpre Pro825 with the "Ti Plated Finish" next to velocitizen's Orange P7 on Saturday's 3 Tribes meet. The finish is quite different. While the P7 is silver the Parkpre has some colour in it and the brushed effect is much more pronounced. Didn't look the same at all. I would like to find out how the finish is done though as it's a long term goal of mine to have the frame re-done.

You are right about the colour, it has a gold tint to it. My Team 925 has chromed forks which is a very white polished finish compared to the frame colour.

I believe the brushed effect to come from the lacquer. If it is stripped of, like I have done on mine, the brushed surface is also removed.
