Ultimate Wet Weather Bike?

My all-weather commuter for the past two years, has been a 2016 Trek 1.1 (the bottom of the range road bike). Bought from a student who was leaving Copenhagen to be a ski instructor in the Alps, I got it for around £140, in great condition. I fitted a rack, the longest SKS Bluemels guards one can buy, plus a kickstand, multiple lights and SPD pedals.

It has an aluminium frame, so won't rust, has 8-speed Shimano, so the gears don't need adjusting all the time, is not particularly attractive to thieves, and the 6-monthly replacement of chainrings, cassette, chain, and brake blocks can be done for under £30.

It has no character, I have no emotional attachment to it - in other words, the perfect vehicle for commuting.
