someone comes to britain and gets a job, fair enough.
then that person brings their mother and father over both in their 80's unable to work and in need of medical care, does that make a contribution to the economy ?
i am in full favour of this country creating opportunities for hard working poeple.

Don't want to insult anyone, but I feel sorry for people who still believe ukips rhetoric. Figures put out by the ONS are inarguable, LEGAL migration is good for this country. As part of the EU we can do nothing about movement of people within it, but what we can do, is to not give benefits to them when they arrive, making it less attractive in the first place. Which is something no party wants to do, I find this odd given the upcoming election when all of a sudden we're offered things that DO make sense to Joe Public.

It's not about a good/bad binary answer, it's about what we need? Nurses? Civil Engineers? Welcome to the UK. Unskilled manual workers? We've got 1m+ unemployed of our own. No thanks, we can get them working instead.
People just want (a sense of) control. Not many UKIP voters would want them in government. What they want is their voices heard, they're a means to an end. And it's working. The longer the main parties don't speak for or don't address the concerns of large parts of society the further UKIP will rise. And the fact they've broken their MP duck now means in many places vote UKIP means get UKIP, which many thought would never be the case.
And as for the OP, Labour, Tories and LibDems have their far share of weirdos and nutters. Thieves, paedophiles, sex pests, the lot. Mark Oaten sure disappeared off our screens quickly. Glass houses and all that.

TBH I am more worried about the efficiency of our border control than ukip.
They will never come to power, as their popularity will eventually make the main parties toughen up on the benefits other EU migrants receive when coming here .

It's an interesting topic. Migration of labour and a flexible economy is what has given the UK resilience in the current economic climate (in comparison with many other EU countries). What is broken is the UK's tax and benefits system which is unfair to almost everybody; contributors and recipients. If this element of social justice was properly reformed then a lot of the debate would simply go away.
