Most of my childhood holidays were spent in North Wales between Harlech and Barmouth - great scenery, good walking country, nice beaches and the sea wasn't too cold for swimming either. Also good for other stuff such as castles, narrow gauge railways, etc.

A lot of my childhood holidays were in North Wales, too - mostly Llanrwst.

As kids we always wanted to take our bikes, but cars that were just adequate for family travelling, and not much in the way of domestic bike racks for cars / and /or cars not really suited put paid to that.

Cornwall is a fantastic place but spoilt by the sheer amount of people there...much better out of season (sept onwards)

Wales (Gower/Pembrokeshire) always great with lots of outdoor stuff
