What tyres would someone have fitted to their top-spec mountain bike in 1992?

When looking what to put on my lemond I read the review in MBA back in 92 and the first thing the testers did was replace the michelins it came spec'd with for Smokes/Darts... So thats what I went for..

Megabite? I know I had them in the early 90's, although maybe 93/94.

I started riding seriously in 92, and can vaguely remember buying some Tioga's with my paper round money, just cant remember which ones..... :x

Smoke Lites for sure....I've still got one on the front of my Pace but the tread blocks are starting to crack where they join the main tyre carcass so it's gotta come off soon

Specialized Ground Controls were also around then, had some but they were like tractor tyres and sounded horrendous on the road
