With that config the rear tire's backward chevron design gets grip up hills and under pedaling force. Going into a corner the front tire's forward chevron design allows the tire to hook up with the dirt and maintain some stability and bite.
The tread is very similar to a Psycho. Did Kenda use the original Tioga Psycho molds for this tire? Thought I might have read that somewhere. I think the Panaracer Smoke molds are gone forever but the Psycho's used the original mold... not sure on that.
Psycho's were OK - but I don't know that they were ever great as either F or R tires. The butterscotch ones sure were pretty though. I enjoyed them BITD.
