Two weeks of severe lower back pain

How can I get rid of this lower back pain? About a year ago, my lower left back began hurting. I discovered that it was a pulled muscle by twisting rapidly during sports practice. I rested it for a while, and started exercising it to strengthen it. Now, 3 weeks ago, my right lower back began to hurt. I've used hot/cold treatments, and I take advil/motrin. (By the way, which is better?) I've stretched it and rested it for a while, but the pain and tightness still persists. Any ideas?

I used an anti-inflammatory diet a couple of years back.
I was riding the road bike at the time, not the mtb, so the riding position was a bit more aggressive.
I found the anti-inflam diet really helped - no lower back aches, no shoulder aches etc. I was riding much further and faster, more often - so win-win really.
The combined effect of reducing pro-inflam foods like spuds, pasta etc and eating more fish/salad/fruit etc also helped me to drop to my lowest weight in many years.

I've come to the conclusion that its my bed that causes it
was away at the weekend after tweeking it on thursday
and despite 5 hours of driving then sleeping on the floor of the hotel we stayed in (dont ask, but it was valid) then another 5 hour drive home
and no back pain all weekend , i get up this morning and jeeez its
sore
so gonna try sleeping on the floor tonight

So there you have it - stop sleeping in Mikee's bed and you won't have a bad back anymore :)

I'd forgotten about those...

I used to have lower back pain. I went to an osteopath who spotted that one of my legs was just a few millimetres longer than the other. And that was enough to push one side of my pelvis higher than the other and slightly twist my lower spine. Hence the back pain.

When I switched from shoes with hard soles to shoes with rubber soles, the pain disappeared.

Dispute the comments about staying away from chiropractors. After years of back trouble following a power lifting injury, i had cortisone jabs, an epidural, physio, rest etc, and was then throwing money away at an osteopaths. Went to a chiropractors recommended by a friend and was fairly quickly properly sorted. Been skiing, cycling and lifting in the gym again for 4 years with no issues.

Just seems to be a little less accepted here than in the states, but then we're behind in most things these days.

My back is a mess. Vertebrae damage from motocross. Bulged discs from enduro and supermoto racing. Broken tailbone from dirt jumping. Best investment I made was a portable TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) unit.
