I recently bought a 1986 TVT/Look KG86. I thought all TVT's had BSA threads but the bottom bracket seems to be French threaded (right side cup goes in clockwise), could that be correct?
Also, any quill stem I have fits very tight and will only go in for about 5cm. Could the headset be French sized as well?

If it is a small frame, the taper at the bottom of the fork could be the problem. I had exactly this issue with my Wilier and an ITM Eclypse stem. I found that using a more traditional all-alloy stem solved the problem.

In the end though, I binned the fork and fitted a carbon ahead fork instead.

For what it's worth my TVT has an Italian BB so they definitely weren't all BSA threaded. I'm sure you already know but Italian cups tighten up the same way as french cups but have a larger overall diameter. I also thought French BBs were long obsolete by the time the TVT was available, although this is only a guess on my part.
