TV to PC Connector (RS-232C?)

sorry for not knowing what your saying but could someone point me in direction of a lead for pc to tv
laptop has a port which takes 15pins, needs to go to scart i guess or the red white yellow connection

The easiest way is to just use the VGA out on the back of your laptop as your telly will have one on the back I'm sure, though it may be marked RGB instead of VGA. Your PC may also have an S-VHS output on it (little round connector with a circular pattern of pins) as your telly will also have one. This is a better option in terms of the cable not being a big fat one. Bear in mind you will have to take the sound output from your laptop to an amp as VGA is only a graphics cable. Then you need to hold down Fn on the laptop keyboard and hit F8 (normally) to shuttle between having the image on the laptop/the telly/both.

Easy as that.

Then Samsung are talking out the hole in their arse in terms of semantics as a PC counts as AV equipment. However you need to remember that in terms of resolution even HD Tv's are behind laptop screens. They are HD in terms of television signal as opposed to computer screen resolution.

The screen was capable of 1366x768 using the VGA port but when using that resolution through the DVI port it would come up with a message that the resolution was unsupported. The highest resolution I could get with the DVI port was 1024x768.

The TV was bought before PCs had DVI output capability. I added the DVI graphics card later.

I always forget that PC's were late to DVI, MAcs have had it for years. It can be a complete pain though in terms of resetting display devices settings on occasion. VGA is much simpler.

dont have any round ports as its quite a slim laptop, just the one i mentioned
is rgb the same as scart? /similar looking port?
could you point me in direction of?
can do sound easy

The 15 pin is your VGA out, I'm pretty sure your telly will have the same type on it. Then it's just a case of getting a cable from your local computer store or Maplins. If you still have the manual for the telly and the laptop they will explain it properly in layman's terms.

Cyfa theres quite an assumption being made here that you have a LCD/plasma telly.

If you are running a CRT then it is likely you wont have a 15pin VGA on it. Hell even early LCD's dont always have them.

To go from the 15pin to scart you will need a a box of tricks, probably still best to go to maplins and ask them. I believe there can be issues of compatibility between VGA and scart signals.

jerky yes thank you! saved me yanking the tv out of its whole and falling over at the same time! it is crt! :D
if its going to be hassle i wont bother
just thought i could do it with one lead
