i have 91 saracen cross trax with horizontal drop outs but they slot in from the front of the bike and the wheel moves backwards. anyone got any ideas for using tugnuts as i am running single speed?

Just posted these tugs...not appropriate for you I fear...send a pic and lets look at the frame.

switch from using a QR to a nutted axle - you may have to manually adjust occasionally but the nuts should hold.

I've seen some drop outs that have been tapped and have a small grub bolt keeping the axle in the right position.

Seen some tugnuts of the kind you desire on an old Dawes single speed step thru.

I do not know where you can buy them but I reckon you could make up a set.

They comprised a sheet of thin steel which was folded over so that it sat on both sides of the dropout. Holes were drilled so that the axle passed through both sides of the folded sheet.

Where the fold occurs a threaded nut sits between the sheets of steel with a hole drilled on the crease to allow a bolt to enter the nut. The fold wraps around the rear of the dropout.

Tensioning results from winding in the bolt which pulls the nut and thus the sheet steel away from the rear of the dropout as the bolt tip presses against the rear of the dropout. Once tension is reached the axle nuts are tightened to hold the wheel in place.

Baked bean tin steel would probably be adequate with a nut and a long bolt. Secure the nut in place with some super glue.

Looks quite simple and I think I might give it a go myself.

Cheers
