trying to id a frame unknown

With that said, perhaps my view on it is wrong, i was simply basing my thoughts on having to deal with the aftermath of blown shocks and pissed off customers with cracked headtubes and twisted rear ends.

The comment ref the far east, is more a reflection on quality control, these were bought in bulk by the container load and stickered here in the UK, surplus unsold being sold to the trade without decals at all, margins reflected.

Unlike brands that did outsource to far east manufacturers like Orange Ibis etc, that took quality control very seriosuly and in some cases did frame alignment and even paint in the UK before final assembly etc.

Sadly this was not the case with this frame regardless of what decals is had.

I guess im wrong, and Mark your quite right, One mans Rubbish is another mans Gem.

You really are unhappy! Just about every brand had a 'just riding along' walk into the bike shop with blown shocks and cracked headtubes - because they had fun blowing the shit out their bikes. The magazines said 'you can do this!' whilst reality said 'no, you bloody cant!' as just about any brand you can think of was brought into the shop, usually with an angry/ sad Dad and the question 'can you fix it?'

*it is 'just a frame' after all but it has clearly affected you long term.

Have you too, been touched inappropriately by Al Carter?

**And! And!! Orange quality control? Is there an Aluminium O out there without a crack?

This was only from Ballistic, unless you have documentation from somewhere, it wasnt that cheap and would have had a fairly decent spec for an early far east full suspension given what was available at the time. It would have been an ideal first foray into a full bouncer leading on to a Kona or Marin as the pocket money turned into a real job - heck, the shock is adjustable at least. Even Marin were fitting pretty awful Shock Works units to most of their models at the time.

Have you forgotten what it was to have fun with a bike? To go for a blast somewhere and not to worry how much it was or how rare it is or what might break? So its not exotica, nobody will ever claim that it is, but there will be many who will laugh as they remember their first jump or local downhill. To dismiss it out of hand just because its cheap and far east kind of alienates you from just about every famous brand going, these bikes would have represented a lot of fun for people - dont get wrapped up in your own mythology!

Mark, are you having a bad day...?

And to be fair, you have spannered for bikes shops i think, im unsure who your bosses at the time dealt with what suppliers they bought from, its certainly not a massive trade secret or one that needs documentation to make an assesment on a products quality because of its "retail" price 20 years ago.....LOL.

Im glad we can at least agree, there is NO mythology wrapped up in it, It is Cheap, it isnt Exotica, and dads did bring them into the shop broken and with a sad face.

It took a while, but we got there in the end mark, around the houses perhaps, but by the look of it, we did draw the same conculsion in the end.....PMSL.

Al Carter touched you in your special place - I bet he didnt put your tools back in the right position either

I know, its a cheap shot, but sometimes the hypocrisy gets a bit much. I bought my Zaskar instead of the 'O' parked next to it and I couldnt of told you why at the time.

And anyway, I much prefer:
