Re:

Its as close to a Santa Cruz as you are sat in your arm chair at home.

Sadly its nothing more than a cheap far east frame, low end, with a low end shock, and being fair the rear shock was pretty bad when new.
Mail order specials etc, RRP anywhere between £100 £199 dependant on where it was bought im afraid.

Ballistic Exocet

Not a truly bad frame, better than a Sinnermans £99 offerings

Re:

FWIW, not really, it was avaliable to wholesalers in the uk, unstickered so if the shops who bought them wanted to put there own decals on it they could. This was the same to be said for a lot of generic aluminium, which included hardtails frames made using easton tubing etc.

And whilst, im sure Mark knows this, we all know, if something has a recognized name on it, you can get higher shillings and pence, and im sure this can be said here too. (especially as the Importer wanted something to offer along side its Ballistic suspenstion fork range).

but sure as egges is eggs, it wasnt any good new, and a Santa Cruz it isnt.

Re: Re:

So its from the Far East - News Flash! So are a lot of beloved and treasured brand names.

Your point is, er, what?

Mark, i think its safe to say, we can agree, its a low end far east frame, with a URT rear end and a shock that well......moved.

You are right, is isnt a Far East made, Yeti SB66 or its retro equvilent.

is the point a little clearer, or would you rather the fella went and told his buddy he has a retro goldmine in hand.....

Re:

As above, Ballistic. I picked one up a year or so ago as it had some decent kit on it. Tried to sell the frame cheap with no success, tried to give it away karma with no success! Ended up chucking tat parts at it and using it as a trade in.

Re:

With that said, perhaps my view on it is wrong, i was simply basing my thoughts on having to deal with the aftermath of blown shocks and pissed off customers with cracked headtubes and twisted rear ends.

The comment ref the far east, is more a reflection on quality control, these were bought in bulk by the container load and stickered here in the UK, surplus unsold being sold to the trade without decals at all, margins reflected.

Unlike brands that did outsource to far east manufacturers like Orange Ibis etc, that took quality control very seriosuly and in some cases did frame alignment and even paint in the UK before final assembly etc.

Sadly this was not the case with this frame regardless of what decals is had.

I guess im wrong, and Mark your quite right, One mans Rubbish is another mans Gem.

This was only from Ballistic, unless you have documentation from somewhere, it wasnt that cheap and would have had a fairly decent spec for an early far east full suspension given what was available at the time. It would have been an ideal first foray into a full bouncer leading on to a Kona or Marin as the pocket money turned into a real job - heck, the shock is adjustable at least. Even Marin were fitting pretty awful Shock Works units to most of their models at the time.

Have you forgotten what it was to have fun with a bike? To go for a blast somewhere and not to worry how much it was or how rare it is or what might break? So its not exotica, nobody will ever claim that it is, but there will be many who will laugh as they remember their first jump or local downhill. To dismiss it out of hand just because its cheap and far east kind of alienates you from just about every famous brand going, these bikes would have represented a lot of fun for people - dont get wrapped up in your own mythology!
