Triple Troubles . .

There are converter rings available which fit a double and hold the triple inner. TA used to make them, I think that Stronglight still do. They aren't that easy to find.

IIRC Spa Cycles used to list them.

Yip... "Triplizers"

By lightweight, what do you mean?

Lighter than a Record triple cratridge BB? There are still some of theses available, but they're about £90 each.

I'm assuming that the standard bb is steel, so anything in titanium would be preferable.

The record triple bb is 200g and has a hollow cromo axle.

The Ti-axled Royce is 190g

It's £90 for the Record triple and £190 for the Royce.

In terms of reliability, I've seen snapped Ti axled but never a steel one... That's just me though.

I last raced 25 years ago, so personally, I would list the bottom bracket as one of the components I'd be least likely to worry about shaving a few grammes off... Particularly if it was at the expense of reliability or durability.

One thing that is bugging me about this whole thread.

Why so keen for the ultra long crank?

Bar the half hour to adapt to a slightly shorter one and 20 seconds to lift the saddle/bars, there is no disadvantage to a shorter crank. Despite what 1980s/1990s fashion tells you....

And to be quite honest, a shorter crank might be even better with a triple, as you'll find it easier to use a smaller gear/higher cadence.....

Re:

You're easily bugged!

That is the set up that I use on my bike and it suits me perfectly.

Nothing too bugging about that, is there?!

:D
