well ive been suffering for about 2 weeks with a trapped nerve in the neck, which has caused pain in my arm and not being able to sleep in my usual postion at night, given in tonight and got merry on drink to try a different way of dealing with the pain

anyone else suffered a trapped nerve???

Many times dude.

Yoga does it for me, I practise Kuk Sool Won and now and then I get a niggle, but Yoga sorts out just about everything.

My wife swears by Pilates.

I would try laying on a table and dangling your shoulders and head down, then rotate gently letting your muscles relax.

Once you are sober, I might add.

:)

failing that, find a local chiropractor.

i honestly can't sing the praises of chiros enough, if it wasn't for the treatment i've received i'd still be a near cripple barely able to walk any distance let alone ride a bike again.

alot of people seem to think chiros just do spinal adjustments, they do the entire musculoskeletal system.

they should be able to release the trapped nerve if all else fails.

I currently have a trapped nerve in my neck at C7, causes pain in my shoulder and forearm. Physio has helped, but I'm still not cured. I'm waiting on the works physio getting back to me. Riding my bike isn't ideal and like you I have difficulty getting to sleep

Yup. Found a brilliant physio who is also a cyclist and he had it sorted in no time. Quite near where you used to live helpfully enough

Found a good Chiropracter that sorted out my herniated disk. There is nothing quite like being beaten up by a rotund good looking middle-aged woman whilst being dressed in just your boxers. Some people would pay for that sort of abuse. I did!

I trapped a nerve in my lower back whilst doing some gardening last Saturday. My right leg went numb from the knee down along the right side and the top of my foot. I saw a sports physio on wednesday as it hadn't got any better and he free'd the nerve in about 10 minutes. It didn't feel any different at the time but he said it would take a while to get the feeling back as the nerve opens up and repairs etc. The area of numbness has been shrinking even since and has nearly gone now.

OP has made an exact description of my recent injury. I don't even know how I did it, but I spend my days moving pianos, so there might be a connection. I hurt myself a couple of months ago, and the best comparison is that it was like having sciatica, but in the arm not the leg.

First couple of days I couldn't pick up anything heavy with my left hand, and like the OP I couldn't find many sleeping positions that weren't painful. Bike riding was out, because the position (arms extended, head tipped back) lit my arm on fire, but I didn't miss a day of piano moving.

When you are my age (65) every injury is a potential career ender. A couple of weeks into it I tried to go on a MTB ride, but turned around after a couple of miles. I wondered whether I would ride again. I thought about chiropractic, but never went through with it.

Even though it was painful, I still rode my town bike short distances to monitor my progress. Gradually the pain subsided and I could ride for real. Now I get a little tingle in my fingertips for a minute or so when I jump on the bike, but it goes away quickly.

I don't have any medical advice, but if my experience is a guide, it will eventually go away and you will have to regain your bike fitness.
