about 8 months ago one of the lads i work with found a £300 digi camera on a drystone wall 3/4 of the way up the minors track on snowdon. he sat with the camera (in a lowe pro bag, 2 spare batteries, 4 spare memory cards) for an hour, left a note on the wall with his number in place of the camera then pinned a note to the info board in the car park they used.
no phone calls, no texts, no emails that carried any merit - some called but when quizzed on the make, model and pictures on the camera nobody knew what they were - just trying to nick someone elses stuff.
in cases like this I think fair enough, he's gone above and beyond what a lot of people would do with an item of value, for smaller items such as multi tools, pumps etc. then finders keepers applies if they look to have been misplaced for more than a day or two.
