If you find something half buried on the trail and its obvious its been there a while say multi tool, new tube, water bottle and you pick it up would you keep it? Or hand it in to the police/trail centre office things of upto £25-£30 value not massively costly bits (honest answers please) :D

odds are if you hand it in the original person won't get it back anyway, most people would just think shit i've lost it...they aren't going to go to the police.

Just keep it, no doubt you'll lose stuff along the way too its just the circle of life.

i like these answers as today i found a genuine innovations air chuck and a new 40gram cartridge woop woop i thought it was rubbish at first so stopped to clear the trail so could be a gift from the trail gods for stopping to pick litter up :D

Good karma for clearing up somebodys rubbish ?? :)

If it's personal ( whiskey flask inscribed to a loved one ) go look for the owner. Mobiles are sooo traceable with either looking for an " I.C.E. " ( " In case of emergency " ) number, " mum " or " home " ( just use yer bonce ).
Practically everything else ( pumps, gloves, multitools etc. ) is your fee for teaching the numpty victim not to bugger off without having a good eyeball around first and/or securing essential gear to bikes/camelbaks p1ss poorly.
I myself have grudgingly paid this fee for NOT looking around for my £200 digi camera after a crash, using velcro instead of straps and putting gloves on the saddle ( to fall off, unseen as you face forward ) instead of the handlebar.
