The downtube of the BMC seems to crumple on impact with the back of the girl in red's head. The crash sends the bike into the air, and the head tube separates when it touches down again.

Pity the poor photographer in the first picture. Missed taking pictures of the accident.
Excellent action pictures. This photographer was at the right place at the right time with an excellent camera.
only one girl broke a collar bone. Would have thought more bones broken

ahh, sorry when you said about running it without the head unit i thought you hadn't spotted it.

but no you can't record anything without the head unit, have set up quite a few of these before for yamaha utag team when they did the RAAM (and won it ) bit fiddly but very informative if you know what you are looking at, and i'm not saying that i do!!

That's a bit silly, why such a large head unit.
Surly they could just use a compact BlueTooth transmitter, be far smaller and lighter than an LCD head unit. Pick up the details from a remote station and place it in the frame somewhere so not to effect aerodynamics.
This technology is used for other remote data loggers from sensors.

In fact no real need to transmit it as I cannot see why it's needed in real time, just store it then transmit later, again BlueTooth is ideal for this.

I know. Assume the rider not being able to see it was intentional - either due to preference or rules.

The (some)men were using straps & cleats. Strong legs. Lucky for those girls they were only using cleats. Could have even more painful

Straps are only in sprint events. 500m, 1km, sprint, keirin and teamsprints.
